Kendall Bend Sponsors High School Pageants for Sparrow Clubs USA
Kendall Bend has partnered with Sparrow Clubs USA to support local schools that “adopt” a sparrow through fundraising and community service efforts. A sparrow is a child in our community with a life-threatening or life-affecting illness or condition. Each school supports their sparrow in unique ways, but all pledge to complete 300 hours of community service to “unlock sponsored funds for their Sparrow Family.”
As a Community Club Sponsor, Kendall Bend supports the participating local schools by covering expenses so that fundraising and community service efforts are 100% free to the schools. With this opportunity, the Kendall Bend team was invited to Summit High School’s Thunder Pageant, which is an annual pageant that celebrates and highlights the hard work done by the students for their sparrow. This year, students from Summit raised over $42,000 for the Sparrow, Henley, who was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in March of 2022. Thankfully, this form of cancer is extremely treatable, and the funds raised by Summit High School and Community Sponsors will help the family with medical expenses so they can focus on helping Henley get better.
Our Kendall Bend Community Outreach representative, Megan Cornett, was invited to be a judge at the Thunder Pageant and had the opportunity to interact with the students who have been completing their community service work over the last four months. Students performed talents ranging from cooking, singing, dancing, and beyond to wrap-up their fundraising efforts and celebrate with our community. We were honored to be a part of the event and want to say congratulations to the students who exceeded their fundraising goal! Please enjoy some of the photos from the 2023 Thunder Pageant; it was all for you, Henley!
